Elementary school students throughout the Levittown Public School District learned about healthy snacks and nutrition-rich foods as part of Levittown Education Against Destructive Decisions (LEADD) Week.
In each of the schools, the PTA donated healthy snacks, including freshly cut vegetables, yogurt, fruit, crackers and cheese and tortilla chips and salsa. Local eateries and stores also donated food for the event.
In addition, the students were given brochures about the nutritional values of colorful foods and, in their individual classrooms, studied how certain foods help tonourish the body.
The Levittown School District approved a resolution to provide healthier snack options in vending machines last month.
The district also revealed that they do not use ammonia-treated ground beef in their beef products.
