Levittown Student Named State Winner in 'Doodle 4 Google' Contest

Google visited Stokes Elementary School Wednesday to announce and congratulate the winner, who is now a finalist in the national competition.

A talented Levittown fourth-grader is one step closer to getting her artwork on the Google homepage.

Stokes Elementary student Audrey Zhang was announced as the New York winner in the “Doodle 4 Google” contest Wednesday morning. The winner of the national competition will receive a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 tech grant for their school, in addition to having their artwork on Google.com.

The theme of this year’s drawing is “My Best Day Ever…” Voting lasts until May 10, with the national winner to be announced on that day at the Museum of Natural History. More than 130,000 total entries were submitted nationwide.

Zhang’s idea for the drawing was “a place without pollution or anything that’s not good for environment,” she said.  The artwork took her about two weeks to complete, and she said she used markers and colored pencils to create it.

“My best day ever will be when I discover paradise,” Zhang says in her entry. “In paradise, I could play with dragons, ramp with leopards, and chat with fairies...It would be the best day ever when I could finally live in a mystical, dreamy realm.”

The assembly was held 9 a.m. in general purpose room of Stokes and was attended by students, teachers and her family.

“This is huge, right?,” said Audrey’s mother, Hongmei Weng. “So many people come together to celebrate, it’s amazing. So extremely proud. “

Voting for the national winner has just begun – visit this website to vote for Audrey’s Doodle. Each person can vote five times - one doodle per grade group.
