Story by Elizabeth Sobel.

The Division Avenue High School cheerleading team has placed eighth in the Empire State Regional Small Varsity Division Competition at Hofstra University.

Coached by Ronna Sciara, the girls’ performance qualified them for competition in the Universal Cheerleaders Association National Competition in Orlando, Fla. this February. This is the first time the Division Avenue cheer team has qualified for the national competition.

The team’s routine was judged based on tumbling ability, stunts, jumps, dance and overall cheer performance.
