Division Girls Cheer Their Way to Victory!

The Division Avenue High School Varsity cheerleading team placed eighth in the Empire State Regional Small Varsity Division Competition at Hofstra University on December 8th. Coached by Ronna Sciara, the girls’ performance qualified them for competition in the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) national competition in Orlando this weekend. This is the first time the Division Avenue cheer team has qualified for the national competition. The team’s routine was judged based on tumbling ability, stunts, jumps, dance and overall cheer performance.
The girls win at the Regional Competition gave them more power and confidence for their future competitions within the Long Island Cheerleading Coaches Association (LICCA), which led to a 3rd place trophy on January 6th at Smithtown East and a 2nd place trophy on January 19th at Harborfields High School.  Placing in these competitions gave the girls an automatic bid to the Long Island Small Varsity Finals this past weekend at Suffolk County Community College where they took home the 5th place trophy.
