The Island Trees girls soccer team is playing shutout soccer, holding opponents to zero goals scored in their past 10 games.
The Bulldogs (13-1-2) hope to continue their winning ways against No. 1 South Side on Wednesday in the playoff quarterfinals, after previously defeating Valley Stream North on Friday, 1-0.
The girls have allowed only six goals on defense this season, while scoring 45 times. The last goal scored against Island Trees came over a month ago against Jericho on Sept. 26, in an 8-2 Bulldogs victory.
In the regular season, Alexa Dolgos led the offense with 11 goals and 11 assists, while Melissa Jorgensen, Alicia Buchanan, Michelle Merrill, and Jessica Petry combined for 12 goals and seven assists.
Seniors Gabby Petito, Jess Bohorquez, and Kristen Breihof combined for eight goals and six assists. Brianna Wilson finished the regular season with 10 shutouts and 143 saves.
“Maggie Hastings and Nicole Mignone have been very tough midfielders with smart distribution skills,” said Lynn Collins, Island Trees Athletics. “Kaeley Johnston, backup goalkeeper, finished off two shutout games. Michaela Siegler and Corinne Carroll contributed both on and off the field enhancing team morale.”
South Side (13-1-1, conference A-I) recently defeated No. 16 Carey in the first round of the playoffs.
