Island Trees Wrestling Takes Second Place at Timmy Collins Duals

The Island Trees Wrestling Team took second place at the Timmy Collins Duals on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Oceanside.

The team opened the day with a 63-20 victory over Oceanside HS. In the second round, the Bulldogs beat MacArthur by a score of 51-22.

In the third round, the Bulldogs beat a tough Sewanhaka East team 47-23, and in the semi-finals, the Bulldogs faced their rivals, the Farmingdale Dalers.

After getting off to a great start, the Bulldogs had to hold on down the stretch for a 40-36 victory. The match was sealed by Senior James Lamberts 10-1 victory at 113 lbs.

 In the finals, the bulldogs took on Suffolk’s Walt Whitman HS. After winning three of the first six bouts to take an early lead, the Bulldogs then hit a dry spell in the middle of the lineup.

The team wrestled well all day, but in the end, it was Walt Whitman who avenged an earlier season loss to the Bulldogs to take home the title. Below are the box scores for the first four matches:
