Seniors Christina Rea and Tom Nuckel have been tearing up the Division Avenue High School lacrosse field so far this season, while Emily Lucas and Bridget Vilbig have been leading Island Trees to victory. What do these four local athletes have in common besides killer skills with a lacrosse stick? They have all given verbal commitments to NCAA Division I Lacrosse Programs for next fall.
Christina Rea
Rea, a senior midfielder for the Division Lady Dragons, has accepted an athletic and academic scholarship to attend Old Dominion next year. Over the course of her college career, she has maintained a high honor roll status at Division Ave High School. As a multi-sport athlete for the Lady Dragons, she was awarded All-Conference (soccer), All-County (lacrosse) and All-League (basketball).
Tom Nuckel
Nuckel, a senior attacker/midfielder for the Division Blue Dragons, signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Albany for lacrosse. A Conference B-I standout, he totaled 58 goals and 35 assists last season, leading Division to a 16-2 mark. He was a 2010 All-County and All-Scholastic winner.
Emily Lucas
Lucas, a junior attacker/midfielder for the Island Trees Lady Dawgs, has given a verbal committment to attend Monmouth University for lacrosse. In her first two years on the varsity roster, she scored a team-high 90 goals. This season, she has tallied 24 goals and added four assists in six games played.
Bridget Vilbig
Vilbig, a junior midfielder for the Island Trees Lady Dawgs, is a standout athlete on defense. She has verbally agreed to attend Ohio State to play for the Buckeyes women's lacrosse team. Vilbig, who also plays soccer and basketball for the Lady Dawgs, has tallied 12 goals and five assists in four games played on the lacrosse field this season.
