MacArthur High School Athletes of the Year

Levittown Patch recognizes 25 student-athletes who excelled over the course of the 2010-11 school year.

As the 2010-11 school year comes to a close, Levittown Patch would like to congratulate MacArthur High School on a phenomenal eight months of sports and wish the Generals baseball team good luck in the county finals on Monday.

There were epic wins and heart-breaking losses, but what will be remembered most are the athletes who gave it their all.

Without further ado, here is our first countdown of MacArthur's Top 25 Athletes of the Year.

Top Five Spotlight

1. Tom Joyce, a senior running back for the Generals, was the recipient of the coveted Tom Thorp Memorial Award. Each year the honor is given to Nassau County's Most Outstanding Football Player. Joyce led the Generals in touchdowns and tackles this year. In addition, he is a two-time All-County athlete and will be attending Sacred Heart in the fall.

2. Chris Perez, a senior wrestler, is a two-time County champion and two-time All-American. He is nationally recognized in his craft and will be wrestling for Princeton University in the fall.

3. Jena Cozza, a sophomore at MacArthur, is a standout talent in soccer, basketball and softball. Her strong power bat in the middle of the Lady Generals' lineup helped lead the team earn a conference title in softball this year.

4. Kristen Brown, a junior pitcher for the Lady Generals, tallied a 10-1 record over the course of the 2011 softball season. Behind Brown's solid efforts, MacArthur cruised to a 16-4 overall record and a Conference title in 2011.

5. Kevin Monahan, a multi-talented senior athlete, received All-Conference honors for his work on the football field this year. He also pitched well enough to earn a 5-1 record for the Generals baseball squad, which helped the team earn a Conference title this year.
