MacArthur Lacrosse Players Sign National Letters of Intent

Story by Liz Sobel.

Levittown’s MacArthur High School is pleased to announce that two senior-athletes, both varsity lacrosse players, have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their sports careers at the collegiate level. Gerard Cunningham has signed with Stony Brook University and Ryan Purcell has signed with the University of Denver.

Cunningham, who has played lacrosse for four years, is also an accomplished football and basketball player. This fall, Cunningham was designated as an All-County football player and was the recipient of the Nassau Zone Award, sponsored by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, for having exemplified outstanding physical performance, scholastic ability and leadership qualities. Cunningham was also selected as a Peer Leader for the high school.

Purcell is a four-year varsity letterman in lacrosse and was named Honorable Mention All-County as a sophomore and All-County as a junior, as well as Academic All-Conference both years. Purcell has volunteered his time at many of the district’s youth clinics and lacrosse camps and works with the Town of Hempstead’s Lacrosse Academy instructing young players during the summer. Purcell was also selected as a Peer Leader.

The district congratulates both student-athletes on their accomplishments and wishes them continued success at the collegiate level and for years to come.
