Levittown Resident Organizes 7th Annual Coat Drive

The coat drive is handled from her Levittown home; coats start being distributed to local organizations in November.

It may be 95 degrees outside, but Lindsay Gruntorad's 7th annual coat drive has already begun.

Gruntorad, a Division Avenue High School alum, started the coat drive after volunteering at a food drive in Harlem, noticing that the people receiving food were in dire need of coats.

Last year's 6th annual coat drive was a smashing success, bringing in 617 coats. This year she hopes to do even better.

"I know it's a bit early, but if I want to beat last years total, I have to get a move on things," Gruntorad said. "Plus, it's the perfect time before people toss the old jackets and buy new ones."

Gruntorad single-handily organizes the coat drive from her living room, and offers to pick coats up from your house at a convenient time. The coats are distributed to local organizations in Novemeber.
