All members of the Levittown Fire Department will be on stand by tomorrow in preparation for Hurricane Sandy and during the duration of the storm. “All fire houses will be manned,” said Chief Scott Fisher. “We are in constant contact with the Office of Emergency Management in preparation for this storm.”
Chief Fisher stated that all generators and equipment are in working order in the event of an emergency. 80 to 90 people will be on call at all times to assist Levittown residents in danger during the storm. “We anticipate high winds, downed trees and power lines and flooding which we encountered with Hurricane Irene,” he said. The Department received 70 to 80 emergency calls during the 2011 storm.
Chief Fisher and the department are urging all residents to take precautions when Hurricane Sandy hits. “If your power goes out, turn off the electrical breakers in case the power does go back on. A power surge could possibly cause a fire.” In addition, Chief Fisher also advised residents to use battery operated items rather than candles to avoid any fire emergencies.
