Cops: Man Busted After Levittown Break-ins

When a 57-year-old vehicle spotted him, cops say the alleged burglar stole his bike and fled.

A Uniondale man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly broke into a Levittown home and tried to enter another, cops said.

According to police, Mitchell Eduardo Alfaro Berrios, 22, was spotted by a 57-year-old man allegedly trying to enter a Elm Drive South home via the rear window around 4 p.m.. Once confronted by the victim, cops say Berrios fled on the victim's bicycle.

Berrios was apprehended a short time later in a yard on Charles Lane.

After an investigation, police said Berrios broke into a home earlier Wednesday on Turn Lane and stole an iPhone, phone charger, ear buds and a gold watch. Those items, along with Berrios' passport, were recovered in a knapsack he left at the Elm Drive South residence, according to authorities.

Cops say they also found a glass cutter tool that was used on the windows.

Berrios has been charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and one count of possession of burglar tools. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
