Levittown Volunteers Honored at Firematic Awards

Two members of the Levittown Fire Department were among those honored by the Town of Hempstead at the Firematic Awards Thursday night.

“Tonight, I am proud to stand among a group of Hempstead Town’s bravest as we salute the courageous and caring individuals who volunteer their time and efforts to protect our communities,” Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray said. “No matter the time of day, or the conditions presented to them, these brave men and women are at the ready, even at the most harrowing moments, to care for their fellow citizens.”

Ex-Chief Timothy Courtney and Honorary Chief Vincent Zupo were among those honored.

Poet Ralph Waldo Emerson’s famous quote, “The years teach much which the days never know,” are fitting words to honor two men who combine for a century of service to the Levittown Fire Department.

Both Ex-Chief and Commissioner Timothy J. Courtney and Honorary Chief Vincent Zupo, are in the midst of their milestone 50th year of service to the department and they continue to share a wealth of experience and knowledge with fellow firefighters.

Timothy served as a Lieutenant and Captain in Rescue Company 4 in the 1970's. Tim later rose to the rank of chief and was also elected Fire Commissioner, where he has served for over 25 years.

Vincent is a Charter member of Ladder Company 6. In the 1970s, Vincent was elected as 2nd Lieutenant, and rose to the rank of captain.

He later became an original member of the Fire-Police Squad where he served as Lieutenant and Captain. Vincent was selected for the Rank of Honorary Chief in 2004.
