Residents Get Sneak Peak at New Schoolhouse Road Building

A barbecue was held at the site of the former North Levittown Lanes Thursday; Company seeks residents input on what should be done with vacant part of the building.

D&F Development Group held a community barbecue in Levittown Thursday to say hello to their new neighbors and show off the newly renovated building.

The real estate company said that their new offices at 100 Schoolhouse Road are about 99.9 percent complete and they hope to move in the building in the next few days.

“We just wanted to meet our neighbors, to say hello, to let everybody know who we are,” said Peter Florey, Principal at D&F.

The office space they will occupy covers roughly 7,000 feet and is located where the former owner’s office, bar, storage space and shoe area was located at North Levittown Lanes.

Everything in back of that, where the bowling alleys were located, is open. That space covers roughly 25,000 to 30,000 feet, Florey said.

“We wanted to set up a dialogue with the neighbors, were we can talk about what the next steps are, because we really want to do this in conjunction with those who live here,” Florey said.

Ann, a resident who lives on the street, said she is open to the idea of new stores being built at the property.

“I mean, all the greens have stores, they are all doing well,” she said.  “They nail stores, delis, bagel stores, like all that stuff. We have nothing here.”

One Patch reader, Janet, suggested that they would like to see a senior center open.

“Our seniors grow larger in number and they have no nice area to go and share fun and life experiences with. Play board games, chess, checkers and just meet people.”

North Levittown Lanes closed down in 2011 after 57 years in business. The building has been vacant since then. Previously, an assisted living facility was planned for the site.

D&F Development Group is based in Lake Success. Their current operations including affordable senior living as well as affordable family living buildings. Their properties include a 80-unit and 420-unit family housing in Hempstead, and 40-unit housing in Riverhead, and their senior living complexes are located in Queens and Brooklyn, according to their website.
